Powaronnow
September 2002 bekamen die ITA des Berufskollegs in Bochum im Englischunterricht folgende Aufgabe: "Write down instructions on how to use a piece of computer hardware." The „Poweronoffswitch“
There it is, in front of you. One big thing, mostly a grey box. But it also can be black or white, or another colour you love. When you look to the thinnest side, you see the tower from the front, but it can also be the backside.
At first, we have to look to the backside, and check, if the plug is plugged into our box, so that we can be sure, that the energy can come out of the wall socket into our tower. If you have a separate switch in the near of these plug, you have to activate this at first.
Now we came definitive to our “poweronoffswitch”. At the front side, you know, that is the other thinnest side, the opposite of our backside, where we work at the last minutes, you have to look for our switch. It can be a round button, or quadrangular, but I don’t thing that it is triangular, but it can be so. It has to be the biggest button, the others, if there are some, have some other functions. If they are have all the same size, you have to try one. But you have to know, it is your own risk, it can be, that it would explode, if it is the wrong one.
Now, we come to the biggest moment. Press this button to turn on power. But think, somebody would use the forefinger, another one would use thumb. But I don’t think that there is anyone, who will use one of the other three fingers you have, but if you want to, you can use them, do what ever you will do. If you are very good, try it with the feet.
Now we have to be quiet and have to look. Will it start? Do you hear a sound? Is one light on? Yes? Then, you have pressed the button successful!
Now it is on … the rest isn’t interesting for us.
But, if there it is no sound and no light, you might have pressed the wrong switch. Probably, there is no electricity, you have to check it with a measuring instrument, or, if necessary with your own fingers!
Have fun!
